As a Hydrotechnical Designer, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging water infrastructure projects that make a real impact. You will collaborate with highly skilled professionals in Germany and play a pivotal role in delivering innovative engineering solutions for our clients. At AFRY, you will contribute to the planning and design of hydraulic and civil engineering projects, including:
- Locks
- Weirs
- Waterfront and port structures
- Flood protection systems
- Pumping stations
- Navigation infrastructure
- Other water-related facilities
Your key responsibilities are:
- Plan and deliver hydraulic and civil engineering projects throughout all design and implementation phases.
- Coordinate surveying works, geotechnical investigations and hydraulic analyses.
- Prepare feasibility studies, option assessments and technical concepts.
- Develop engineering solutions for retaining walls, waterfront and port structures, pumping stations, shafts, chambers, reinforced concrete basins and related infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with CAD designers, technicians and other engineering specialists.
- Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
- Develop construction concepts and implementation strategies, including construction phasing.
- Contribute to technical solution development and engineering decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare technical reports, explanatory memoranda and planning documentation.
- Prepare tender documents, technical specifications and bills of quantities.
- Evaluate contractor bids and prepare award recommendations.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in the planning and design of infrastructure and engineering structures.
- Good written and spoken English (minimum CEFR B2 level).
- Experience in tendering, quantity take-offs and cost estimation.
- Experience with at least one AVA or comparable procurement software solution (e.g. RIB iTWO).
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an international team.
We appreciate if you have:
- Experience in the planning and design of hydraulic structures, water infrastructure, civil engineering structures, bridge, tunnel, geotechnical, special foundation or marine projects.
- Understanding of hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural design principles and concrete technology.
- Familiarity with Autodesk-based design environments and CAD workflows.
- Experience preparing technical presentations using PowerPoint.
- German language skills.
